C2 - Active Recreation Thematic Route

Čakovec-Prelog (Dobravska Jezero)-Čakovec

The objective of the tour is to make it possible for the hiker to enjoy the recreation opportunities offered by the Lake of Dubravka and its surroundings after a very pleasant cycling tour. All age groups can start this tour as it covers only 40 kilometres divided up into two parts.

The suggested stops of the tour starting from Čakovec can be found in the town. The King Tomislav street connecting Ferenc square (Franjevački trg) and Republic square (Trg Republike) consists of more houses built in the 18th and 19th century. The Town Hall located at 1, Kralja Tomislava was built in Late- Baroque style in 1816. The houses at no. 2, 8 and 18 were built at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century. At this time several one- and two-storey houses were built in Historicist style. The teacher training school built in 1888, the new building of the Town Hall built in 1900 and the First Croatian Savings Bank built in 1919 (today the residence of the local council) belong to this group.

The Lake of Dubrava (Dubravsko Jezero) can be found on the Dráva. Its territory is 17,1 square kilometres so it is the second biggest lake in Croatia and the largest artificial lake of the country. Besides cycling it offers a wide range of opportunities for active recreation from swimming to fishing.

Prelog is a neat town on the bank of the River Dráva. It boasts the title of ‘the Town of Flowers’ due to its clean order and the annual Flower Fair that is regarded as a traditional event nowadays. The Baroque Church of Saint James standing in the very heart of Prelog is an impressive building and a valuable cultural monument at the same time. Prelog is the town of entertainment and sport, too.

Target group: every age group, also beginner bikers.

The length of the route: 40 kilometres.

The estimated duration of the tour: 2.5 hours, 5 hours if extended by swimming.
